Speaker Name | Mr. Shailesh Ramamurthy |
Title | High Efficiency Video Coding |
Biography
Shailesh Ramamurthy has been a key contributor to the JPEG2000, Scalable Video, H.264 and HEVC programs at Motorola (formerly) and Arris (presently). He has actively participated in JPEG2000 Standard Committee meetings. He has been working in the area of image, video and signal processing for the last eighteen years, focusing on algorithmic, architectural and implementation aspects, with the last sixteen years being at Motorola and Arris. His areas of interest include image and video compression for embedded and mobile applications, scalability in image and video coding, H.264, HEVC and audio synthesis. Shailesh was awarded the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold medal for his M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and received his B.E. from VJTI, Bombay.
Abstract
High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is the latest video compression standard from ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-T VCEG, and promises to be a spectacular successor to the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. It targets to be doubly efficient at compression with respect to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC when benchmarked at the same video quality. It is conducive towards resolutions like 4K and 8K Ultra High Definition Resolutions.
