ABSTRACT

In shipbuilding design, change is expected, but schedule delays are not. The ability to quickly make design modifications is crucial to preserving schedule in the offshore support vessel industry. A key to optimizing design change is to ensure that changes propagate intelligently through a model. This paper will explore ways in which major early-design changes can be optimized, including the ability to update internal structure due to large or small changes in a hull form surface, the transformation of copied structure, and the ability to use rules to automatically adjust structure due to design changes.
