Prof. Heechan Cho graduated from Department of Mineral and Petroleum Engineering at the Seoul National University in 1978. After several years of military service and working in industry, he came to the Pennsylvania State University and completed his PhD in Mineral Processing in 1990. Then, he spent 7 years in the USA, working as a researcher at various institutes before he joined the faculty of engineering at the Seoul National University in 1997. He was the director of the Research Institute of Energy and Resource from 2007 to 2009 and vice president of the Korean Society for Geosystem Engineering from 2008 to 2009. Currently, he serves as vice president of the Korean Institute of Resources Recycling. In 2011 he became the Head of Department of Energy Systems Engineering at the Seoul National University. His research interests are comminution, grinding circuit simulation, numerical modeling of liquid-solid flows using DEM and SPH, mineral processing, recycling of industrial waste, CO2 sequestration and clean coal technology.
