Prof. Masanobu Shinozuka

For more than half of a century, Masanobu Shinozuka, known to his many friends and admires as Shino, has been an outstanding contributor to the field of stochastic mechanics. He has functioned, worldwide, with impressive vigor and disarming grace as an educator, as a researcher, and as a consultant; he has been a prolific scholar.

Professor Masanobu Shinozuka was born in Tokyo, Japan on 23 December 1930. He received his B.S. (1953) and M.S. (1955) degrees from Kyoto University in Japan; in 1960 he received a Ph.D. degree from Columbia University, U.S.A.

He has held positions at Columbia University, Princeton University, the State University of New York at Buffalo, the University of Southern California, and the University of California at Irvine.

Currently, Dr. Shinozuka, is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California at Irvine.

To many, Professor Shinozuka has defined the “supremum” in the set of “mystae” of stochastic mechanics with indefatigable pursuit of excellence, sustained innovation, and awesome productivity. The gravitas of his oeuvre has been recognized by a plethora of extremely prestigious awards.

On the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary, his students, friends, and colleagues wish him well and look forward to many more decades of fruitful and inspiring interaction.
