ABSTRACT

The accuracy of the Morison equation for wave forces on cylinders is tested with a field experiment, with a database of about 69000 individual wind waves. The test is made on comparing to each other two stationary random processes of time: Fa(t) the measured wave force, and Fc(t) the wave force calculated with the Morison equation. The particle velocities and accelerations in the Morison equation are obtained with the linear theory of wind-generated waves from the directional wave spectrum obtained from measures of the wave elevation.
