ABSTRACT

In November 2009, Bras Basah station was awarded ‘the World’s Best Transportation Building 2009’ at the World Architecture Festival held in Barcelona. This is the latest in a number of awards given to the two stations that were the subject of an Architectural Design Competition organised by the Land Transport Authority and the Singapore Institute of Architects in 2000. The competition, with over 60 entries from local and international architects, was won by WoHa Architects to design both Bras Basah and Stadium stations.

The paper discusses how the award-winning competition was run and organized and explains how the collaborative efforts of the Land Transport Authority’s in-house architects and the WoHa team created two truly remarkable stations.
