ABSTRACT

In 2010 GE Transportation has been awarded by SL Sweden to deploy a new signaling system for the town tramway transportation network. This paper is outlines the experiences and challenges involved in planning, conceptualizing and building a best-fit solution to address the requirements put forth by the Swedish operator. The areas covered under this paper include: System architecture build around centralization and full availability, system components – detection, wayside and onboard, employment of microwave technologies and the conduct of train run simulation to determine parameters.
