ABSTRACT

The mobile wireless communications landscape has changed significantly over the last decade. This paper takes a look at the various mission critical communication and mobile wireless broadband technologies, and how they can significantly improve the efficiency and safety of today’s mass transit systems. Different wireless communication standards that exist today will be discussed in relation to how they can support the real-time operations of the mass transit operators as well as bandwidth intensive applications that today’s commuters come to expect as part of their ridership experience.
