ABSTRACT

Although the conventional drilling survey, which are performed for civil construction field basically, provides direct information of subsurface, engineers only can acquire one dimensional information along drilled hole. In order to acquire two dimensional information of subsurface, various geophysical exploration methods are applied for civil construction field. Among various methods, seismic geotomography method can provides 2-D high resolution data especially for abrupt change of geological and geophysical properties of subsurface. In addition, the dataset consists of adjacent tomograms can be interpreted as three dimensional manner using geo-statistical method.

In Korea, seismic geotomography survey has been performed widely in civil construction field such as tunnel, foundation of bridge and so on since early 1990s. We will introduce various applications of geotomography survey in civil construction field in Korea.

In case of subway tunnel beneath the high traffic road, it is very difficult to acquire the geological and geophysical information although the geological or geotechnical problem is respected. The geotomography survey can be suggested as the efficient method to solve this problem. We will show our experiences of geotomography survey for sub-way tunnel in Korea.

Keywords: Geotomography, Seismic survey, Detonator, 2-D Rock head profile.
