ABSTRACT

This paper describes the Overhead Catenary system (OCS) Dislodgement incident on 24th July 2006 in the North East Line (NEL) Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) rail system in Singapore. OCS failures are often catastrophic in nature and its impact to revenue service is very disruptive. The recovery team initial response to the incident is very critical because the decisions taken would affect subsequent train operations. The main objective of the recovery team is to ensure that train service can continue to operate in a safe manner. Detailed investigation was carried out to determine the cause of the failure and to prevent future occurrence. Reconstruction work of the affected OCS is also described.
