Preface

Cooperation and integration of various disciplines in the civil engineering and construction fields is required for successful planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects. The new global economy demands a closer and more rapid dissemination of latest developments and research output among practitioners. To this end, the ISEC Society Conferences play a meaningful and significant role supporting such global mandates.

The goal of the Seventh International Structural Engineering and Construction Conference, held on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, from June 18-23, 2013, is to provide a platform to scholars and researchers across all continents and countries to present and disseminate the latest research results and findings during the conference and in the conference proceedings.

The structure of this book represents the structure of the conference. The 35 sections in this book represent the 35 technical sessions held during the international conference. All the articles were selected after a rigorous two-stage peer review process that included reviews for the abstract and the full paper.

This book covers a variety of topics from linear and nonlinear analysis of structures, performance of concrete and asphalt mixes, soils-structure interaction, energy and environment, planning and development, construction safety, construction cost and management, facilities and housing, and education, among others.

We wish to thank all the authors for their research papers and contributions to this conference. Many thanks are due to the members of the International Technical Committee and to all other reviewers who offered their time and technical expertise during the review process. We wish to also thank the University of Hawaii at Manoa for providing the facilities and infrastructure that made the organization of this conference possible.
