ABSTRACT
This study integrates mold filling analysis, precision micro-fabrication and micro injection molding in the development of a φ5.5 mm Fresnel lens for mobile phone flash light application. By using optical design software TracePro, this research designs its optical micro-structure to facilitate the FWHM angle of the LED light source fall within ±30°. Moldex3D software was used for mold design and to determine the processing window for the lens design. The mold inserts were fabricated with precision machining technology. Taguchi experimental method was implemented to study the effects of the four molding parameters (melt temperature, mold temperature, injection speed, and holding pressure). The DOE results indicate that holding pressure has the most influence on the optical quality of the lens, and the lens molding with the best molding parameter combination has a FWHM angle of 59.05° and the luminance intensity in the axis direction increases by 2.4 times.
