ABSTRACT

When an eddy current sensor inclined or deviated from its standard position, the measure precision of coating thickness acquired in oil pipeline will be severely affected. To improve it, some effective correction measures were proposed according to the characteristics of eddy current signals due to the sensor inclination or deviation. By using an electromagnetic field simulation method, the distorted signals and the measuring precision were analyzed first both for pipes with different size and the sensors with different lift-off distance. Then, some correction measures and signal processing methods were proposed. Numerical simulation results confirmed the validity of the proposed methods for enhancing the measurement precision. The proposed method gives an effective theoretical guide for the ECT probe position control in practical applications.
