ABSTRACT

The demand for large micro-structured surfaces has increased in the last years. The development of energy efficient lighting systems with functional optical surfaces has become particularly important. A comprehensive research approach, which integrates both mould making and mass replication, utilises adaptive hot embossing technology to micro-structure large surface components. This technology encompasses a wider range of materials and geometric forms, and can be used to produce a new generation of innovative, high added value products.

Thirteen companies and research institutions are developing this technology as part of the “FlexPAET” research project. “FlexPAET” is a three-year project and began in October 2008. The project is funded by the European Union within the Seventh Framework Program.

Keywords: Surface structuring, Micro optics, LED.
