ABSTRACT

The paper discusses a possibility of using CD technology in injection moulding of CD-based micro-pattern polymer substrates for cell immobilization. A design concept of the micro-pattern polymer substrate is developed. Microstructure for positioning of cells is located in a specific way on the periphery of the substrate and is consistent with the possibility of the substrate to be produced by injection molding. In order to achieve an appropriate microstructure of the substrate, impact of geometrical parameters and the location of micro-structure depending on the parameters of the gate system and the substrate thickness on the process of mould filling is investigated. By means of iterative steps in the frame of the simulation codes, a series of values of the microstructure parameters were obtained and relevant versions of the substrate design with the deployment of cell-grooves are achieved.

Presented design of the CD-based polymer substrate with the microstructure, specific situated on the periphery of the substrate is foreseen for applications in CD-based microfluidic devices for medical purposes as a study of cells, manipulation of cells, immobilization of cells and others.
