ABSTRACT

The present study aims to identify phase inversion and its influence on mass transfer characteristics during toluene-water dispersed flow in a 2mm glass capillary. The phenomenon of phase inversion has been identified from visualization studies and pressure drop estimation. It is observed that mixture velocity and inlet concentration of diffusing species influence mass transfer characteristics in the ambivalent zone of phase inversion. However the conduit orientation (vertical upward, horizontal, vertical downward) does not influence the mass transfer.
