Preface


This CD-ROM contains the contributed keynote and technical papers presented at the Pacific Structural Steel Conference (PSSC 2013), held in Singapore from 8 to 11 October 2013. The conference is a sequel to the 9th PSSC 2010 in Beijing that follows a successful series since the inaugural event that was initiated by the New Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association in 1986. The PSSC is a major initiative that brings together expertise in structural steel and composite research, education and construction from all around the Pacific Rim and beyond to promote cooperation among the structural steel associations and communication on development in the field of steel and composite structures.

The joint-organizers for this year conference, the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Structural Steel Society, are honored to receive a warm response from researchers and practitioners in the field of steel, composite and hybrid structures. A total of 207 papers detailing the latest development, innovation and research findings from 24 countries were accepted for presentation including 12 keynote papers by renowned international experts in their respective fields. New construction technologies and design concepts to achieve impressive architectural marvels and application of new products such as high strength, high performance, weather resistant and fire resistant steel were among the highlights of the contributed papers. Advancement in analysis method including effects of fire, buckling, fatigue, wind, cyclic, vibration, dynamic and seismic loadings was also the main focus of the conference aiming to improve productivity and application of steel structures. Up to date rules and recommendations derived from continuous study and research efforts in recently published specifications/codes or those about to be included in their upcoming versions were also disseminated and discussed in the conference.

The conference organizing committee wishes to thank all participants, presenters, international scientific committee and reviewers for their excellent contributions and strong support to the success of the PSSC 2013.
