Abstract

The paper summarizes the structural concepts and construction of the Flower Dome and Cloud Forrest conservatories located at the Gardens by the Bay in Marina South. It also provides an overview on the key structural concepts adopted in the structural design which includes the key structural components, design situations and loadings considered. The evolution of the initial concept to the final design details will be presented. In addition to conventional linear analysis method, direct second order analysis and design method were adopted to check the global stability of the dome structure under the combined actions of intended design loads and extreme loads. Construction and fabrication of such an unique structure posted tremendous challenge to the construction team, and hence the construction sequence and fabrication issues are explained in this paper.
