Editor’s Note

The Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has successfully organized the International Engineering Conference (ENCON) in the past years. This year it is the 6th Conference (ENCON 2013) which remains as the flagship event among those organized by the Faculty from time to time. The beautiful city of Kuching in the state of Sarawak, is the host for this year’s event.

As the society is becoming more and more aware of the changes in environment brought by climatic as well as industrial activities, the subject of green energy and green environment have become of primary concern to the leaders and scientists of today. This has convinced the think tank at the Faculty of Engineering to choose “Energy and Environment” as the theme for ENCON 2013.

The present Proceedings of the Conference include 82 papers selected and reviewed by a panel of reviewers. The papers are from diverse topics related to the theme such as Green Energy, Materials and Environment, Waste management, Environmental Engineering, Green technology, Energy efficiency, Alternative Energy Sources and Sustainability. The Editorial Committee has done an exceptional job in compiling these papers and getting them reviewed. The authors of the papers are from Academic as well as Industrial background, from Malaysia as well as from many foreign countries.

The Editor, Co-Editors, Advisory Panel and Organizing Committee of ENCON 2013 hope that these Proceedings would bring to the readers a wealth of knowledge and insight into the matters related to Energy and Environment. With this I would also like to thank the Publishers for taking care and doing their utmost effort to make these Proceedings available for the Scientific and Engineering community of the World.

With my highest regards,
Prof. Dr Amir Azam Khan
