ABSTRACT

This paper describes the development of jacked piling in Hong Kong. The experiences gained and lessons learnt from installing high-capacity H-jacked piles in Hong Kong are perhaps very unique because jacked H-piles are not common outside Hong Kong and that jacked piles are seldom installed to such a higher capacity. In this paper, problems encountered for installing jacked H-piles such as pile buckling, pile relaxation and pile bending are described. Techniques for solving these problems and for reducing the creep settlement of jacked piles will also be discussed.
