ABSTRACT

This study performed back analysis of two braced excavation cases in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to evaluate the in-situ soil stiffness parameters. Back analysis method based on the wall movement at the first stage of excavation was used. The analysis implements a discrete distribution of the stiffness parameters along the depth by splitting the soil body mesh into many layers to respect overburden pressure and the in-situ soils parameters. Both linear-elastic perfectly plastic and non-linear stress-strain constitutive models are employed to calibrate the stiffness parameters. The stiffness parameters were successfully back analyzed and good agreement between calculation and measurements data was achieved. Moreover, the comparison between N-SPT and the stiffness was discussed in addition to enrich the limited database of deep excavations modeling in sand.
