ABSTRACT
The significant contrasts in material stiffnesses in large-scale soil-structure interaction problems usually result in ill-conditioned systems. Iterative methods are preferred for such large-scale problems, where preconditioners play a key role. However, the performance of existing practical preconditioners is usually poor for such ill-conditioned systems. Some inexact blocks diagonal preconditioners have been proposed, recently, to effectively alleviate such ill-conditioning effects. Usually these solvers are coded for serial computation on scalar computers. In this paper, parallelization of the code has been explored using OpenMP and its usefulness is illustrated through a tunneling example using GeoFEA.
