ABSTRACT
This paper reveals the improved performance in inversion analysis to obtain surface wave tomography for multichannel analysis in geotechnical investigations. Spectral analysis techniques of Rayleigh-type surface waves can be utilized for imaging and characterizing the shallow subsurface through the multichannel analysis of surface wave method (MASW). Inversion analysis is one of final and crucial stage in MASW method to obtain shear wave velocity of soil layer profile for geotechnical characterizations. Interferences including nonplanar, higher mode Rayleigh waves (noise), body waves, scattered and nonsource-generated surface waves by coherent source-generated noise can inhibit the reliability of shear-wave velocities determined through inversion of the phase velocities of Rayleigh waves. In this paper, the fitting criteria are incorporated in inversion technique to demonstrate the reliable outcomes in near surface soil tomography. The significance of this paper is to obtain the improved and robust performance in inversion analysis as well as reliable outcomes in surface wave tomography for geotechnical investigations.
