Biography |
Shinichi Akutagawa has pursued his undergraduate program in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kobe University, Japan. After graduating in 1983, he moved to Seattle, USA, for his Master's degree at the University of Washington working on crack propagation problem for concrete beams. After one year working experience for a consulting company in Japan, he got enrolled for a Ph.D. program at the University of Queensland, Australia. He worked both in Civil and Mining Engineering Departments in the field of inverse or back analysis for underground excavation problem. After returning back to Japan in 1991, he has worked in the field of tunnelling engineering and rock mechanics related projects primarily working on linear and nonlinear back analysis problems. Since 2001, he has been working on non-destructive stress measurements of steel structures using the "Magnetic Sensor". Also, he has been working on developing a new concept of infrastructure monitoring called "On-Site Visualization" to establish safer working and living environment.
