ABSTRACT

This paper combines the advantages of extended finite element method and interface element method to simulate the cracking and delamination of Glare which is a new type of fiber metal laminate.Firstly compared with the results of reference, it approves this numerical method effective and accurate. Then the factors leading to interface delamination are revealed and the coupling between the interface delamination and the ply cracking is systematically analyzed. The results indicate that the combination of these two method can well simulate the cracking and delamination of Glare 2, shear stresses on the interface are the main factors cause delamination, Al cracking may cause delamination, delamination will make crack in Al propagate further, and composite cracking suppresses delamination and Al cracking.
