ABSTRACT

Smart materials are widely applied in modern aerospace industry. It is pointed out that the properties of smart materials under multiple physical fields exhibit spatio-temporal gradients. And such gradients are proved to lead property motion in smart materials. The flow velocities of the properties are calculated. A practical model of property motion is proposed. The effect of the property motion on the dynamics, as well as the corresponding mechanical energy balance of the smart materials is discussed, which emphasized the necessity of considering the property motion in the service of the smart materials and structures.
