Format to Describe Disaster Reduction Technology for Implementation — Development of DRH Template

This paper reports the process and outcome of developing a format to describe disaster reduction technology with the aim toward technology implementation. The format is currently used in a web-based database for collecting and disseminating disaster reduction technology information. The format is called "DRH Template," following the name of the database, which is "Disaster Reduction Hyperbase (DRH)." There were four major challenging issues to be solved in the development process: (1) identifying the information items useful for implementation; (2) designing a format applicable to various types of technology; (3) incorporating devises to promote consideration on applicability; and (4) defining search words to be used to find specific groups of technology. The information items in the completed format covers items that technology learners may ask about in the field and may need in communicating with technology proposers for further learning. The format has flexibility to accommodate three different types of technology defined in the DRH including "process technology." Two supplemental spaces are incorporated in the format in order for proposers to make comments related to the applicability of the proposed technology. Options of search words are listed in the format so that the proposer can identify words relevant to the technology.
