ABSTRACT

Electrical Discharge machining (EDM) process is non-contact machining process that uses a series of electric discharges to remove material from an electrically conductive workpiece. The present work deals with experimental analysis of Powder Mixed EDM of Super alloys such as Hastelloy C-276 as this material is difficult to machining, corrosion, heat resistance among all Ni super alloys. The Silicon Carbide (SiC) powder is used in this experimental work. This powder is an electrically conductive powder which reduces the insulating strength of the dielectric fluid and increases the spark gap distance between the tool electrode and work piece. In this research work current, pulse-on time and powder concentration are used as a process parameter. The output parameters are Material Removal Rate (MRR)and Surface Roughness (SR). 9 Number of experiments conducted, based on the Taguchi orthogonal array with 3 levels and 3 factors.

Keywords: EDM, PMEDM, MRR, SR.
