ABSTRACT

Short videos' entertaining, immersive, and convenient features contribute to excessive use among college students, negatively impacting their lifestyles and well-being. This study utilizes a Structural Equation Modeling approach to construct a model of factors influencing excessive short video consumption among college students, focusing on environmental, personal, and technological factors. To address the reality of college students' short video-viewing habits, we designed a survey questionnaire and analyzed the collected data using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 to validate our theoretical model and research hypotheses. Ultimately, we propose targeted recommendations, including strengthening guidance and supervision at the environmental level, enhancing intrinsic motivation and self-control at the personal level, and mitigating algorithmic risks at the technological level, to promote the healthy development of platforms and guide college students in using short videos reasonably and responsibly.
