ABSTRACT

In this paper, a virtual reality environment is created to bring the emergency brigade team of an industrial unit closer to possible events that have low frequencies and high severities. As a specific case, a scenario of leakage in a sphere of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from an oil refinery is analysed. As a first step, through the methodology of Preliminary Risk Analysis - APR, the emergency scenarios are distinguished and selected. Using ALOHA® software, vulnerability analysis from the selected event was also performed, defining the range and the concentrations of the toxic cloud generated. In addition, in order to understand the dynamics of the simulated scenario, video recording was performed with an action camera (GoPro - San Matea®) in one of the simulated emergency exercises carried out in the LPG spheres. The scenario creation and interaction dynamics were built in Unreal Engine 4 software. The developed game was tested and validated with the brigade leaders of the industrial unit; it has been well received. The obtained results suggest that the inclusion of virtual reality solutions can be used to improve the tactics and techniques performed in emergency actions in industrial units as well as assist emergency brigade teams in training, preparation and recycling.
