ABSTRACT

Proposed integrated solutions are evolving to cope with the digitalization of manufacturing processes. One area of improvement is joining maintenance and quality control. In this paper, a joint model integrating condition based maintenance decision making and a multivariate control chart is introduced. The considered manufacturing process is a single imperfect machine producing one type of items. The machine is initially in a good state, i.e. producing items with no defect. As the manufacturing process operates, defects may appear on the produced items indicating that the machine shifted from the initial good state to an out-of-control state. A multivariate control chart is used to monitor a set of correlated product's characteristics. Adaptive maintenance actions are triggered targeting the components from the machine responsible for the deterioration of the produced items' quality. The presented integrated model relies on information collected from the product to assess the state of the machine. In this work, it is assumed that enough knowledge of the manufacturing process is available in order to link product defects to machine causes. The objective of the proposed model is to minimize the overall manufacturing cost.
