ABSTRACT

For centuries, the horse has accompanied mankind, performing various functions, especially in the economy. One of the most notable factors strengthening the contemporary horse industry is involvement of numerous self-employed entities and small and midsize businesses alongside big companies and multinational corporations. The aim of this article is to identify entities forming the network of relations in the area of horse industry. The term horse industry includes all forms of activity directly or indirectly related to horses. The basic areas of horse industry are formed by its core and the surroundings of this core. Its distinctness in comparison to other economic systems makes it necessary for the entities constituting it to meet specific conditions. Therefore, it may be assumed that horse industry, through creating numerous and unique relationships between various entities, forms a subsystem of the general economy. Regardless of the accepted definition, it is undisputable that horse industry integrates activities of a large number of entities. Based on research conducted in 2006, a synthetic model was created illustrating the network of entities determining the correct functioning of horse industry (the core and its surroundings), the central point of which is breeding. The presented model is an original solution for the areas of science and practice. The analysis is a starting point for creating the government strategy and policies for the area of horse industry.
