<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>In order to study relationships of surfaces of micro hot embossed plastic parts and micro-molds, extensive experiments of hot embossed molding are carried out using micro molds prepared by micro electrical discharge machining (EDM). The surfaces of hot embossed micro plastic parts and micro molds are evaluated using surface roughness, R<sub>a</sub>, surface roughness profile peak, R<sub>p</sub>, and surface roughness profile valley, R<sub>v</sub>. The corresponding relationship of two types of surface is studied with the consideration of shrinkage of micro plastic parts and elastic deformation of micro mold surface. Experimental results indicate that the variation of micro plastic part surface roughness, R<sub>a</sub> and R<sub>p</sub> follows the corresponding micro mold surface roughness, R<sub>a</sub> and R<sub>v</sub>. These results are helpful to improve the surface quality of micro plastic parts and micro mold.  </p><p><italic>Keywords: </italic>Micro EDM, Micro mold, Hot embossing molding, Surface roughness. </p>
