A research organization of national importance like CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai is required to take up projects in a range of topics including inter-disciplinary nature. The duration of the project may also vary according to the quantum of work. The projects are reviewed by a Research Council consisting of experts in the field of structural engineering. The project team should be able to submit and retrieve the progress at any point of time during or after the project duration. The aim of this paper is to describe in detail about a web based application “ProMan”, developed in CSIR-SERC for project progress review management, which manages the flow of information at various levels in the project. ProMan has been developed by using C#.Net and Java Script as front end, while SQL Server 2008 R2 is used as back end. Internet Information Services (IIS) is the Web Server and ASP.Net is the Web Technology in Windows environment. The software has Form Templates to receive data from the users only in a prescribed format thereby reducing time and effort involved in formatting. ProMan facilitates automation in progress reporting in an efficient and effective manner. The automation brings about ease of use besides eliminating redundant data. The features, requirements and capabilities of the application are described in this paper.
