ABSTRACT

Due to the special property such as high surface area to volume ratios, the nano particles have gained more attention in various fields including civil/structural engineering; they are stepping up slowly to create wonders for enhancement in material properties. Studies on nano modifications of cement based materials and their enhanced performances on mechanical properties have been initiated. However, this field requires bottom-up approach to tailor, modify, replace, or include nano materials in the already available matrices such as cement or cement based materials. Therefore, identification of suitable nano materials for enhancement of mechanical and physical properties of cementitious composites is required. A knowledge base on usage of nanotechnology and biomimetics towards developing smart and green construction materials has been developed to facilitate researchers in gaining access to relevant and reliable information in the most efficient and effective way.
