ABSTRACT

The strengthening effect of longitudinal stiffeners on simply supported square plates is discussed in terms of buckling strength under uniaxial load obtained through the analysis in ABAQUS FEM software. The study starts with the investigation of the effect of the dimensions of stiffeners on plates. The optimum dimension and the strengthening effects of two type of stiffening- ‘single
sided longitudinal and double sided back to back’ stiffening are compared.
