ABSTRACT

Many a times some of the parameters in a structural problem such as material properties, geometric properties, support conditions are described imprecisely. Due to this imprecision in the description and the fact that experimental results can have noise, it becomes difficult to get a satisfactory agreement between the results obtain from experiment and finite element model. This necessitates finite element model updating. Sensitivity based approach and stochastic approach are two of the several existing popular finite element model updating approaches. However, in spite of the ability to analyze imprecisely defined systems, the use of fuzzy logic based approach for finite element model updating has been rather limited. Here, we have proposed a fuzzy finite element based model updating approach. The efficiency of the approach has been shown by examples.
