ABSTRACT

Transmission Line (TL) towers are the vital infrastructure facilities. In this paper, the component level reliability analysis is done for a TL tower which had failed in a high wind condition. Computer programs have been developed to perform the component level reliability analysis for transmission line tower members using Advance First Order Second Moment (AFOSM) method and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) technique. The reliability analysis is done for the tower members designed as per the relevant Indian Standards. Using these computer programs, the probability of failure of the tower members evaluated for the critical load cases considering the uncertainties present in material properties and in wind loading.
