ABSTRACT

The numerical simulation of the structural element of building structure subjected to blast loading with the aid of a hydrocode (ANSYS AUTODYN) is presented in this paper. A column is a main structural element in the building structure because it will cause global and progressive failure of the structure. So in this study we can simulate the blast effect on rigid column. The effects of mesh size and quantity on pressure distribution produced by explosions are also studied. Based on that study here “REMAPPING TECHNIQUE” in AUTODYN is used through which the computation time for solving the problem is reduced great extent. Finally results from Ansys AUTODYN are compared with UFC 3-340 results to validate the AUTODYN results are reliable. This paper presents a validation of study of the AUTODYN Remapping approach with manipulated analytical/empirical result by UFC 3-340 by the comparisons of overpressure histories, peak overpressure and impulses. It is demonstrated that the results from AUTODYN produce excellent correlation with UFC 3-340 results.
