ABSTRACT

Engineers have been designing composite and mixed building systems of structural steel and reinforced concrete to produce efficient structures in terms of system performance and constructability, which neither material alone can afford. However there is a need for design guidelines in several areas related to composite structural systems. There are design guidelines developed [5] for systems such as moment connections in composite framed structures which consists of steel beams and reinforced concrete or composite columns. There are analytical models for calculation of joint strength and design of composite connections. However such analytical model or guidelines does not exist for the connection between RCC Slab – Structural Steel Girders. The need arose for developing connection between RCC Slab – Structural Steel Girder specific to this project, in order to achieve an efficient system. The development of RCC Slab – Structural Steel Girder connection detail is discussed in this paper. This paper describes the method of development of procedure for connection between RCC Slab and Plate Girder based on material behavior and development of reinforcement detail through identification of load transfer mechanism and failure mechanism.

Keywords: Plate girder, RCC slab, Shear studs& Anchor reinforcement.
