ABSTRACT

Evaluation of long-term behavior of prestressed concrete member is important from safety and serviceability concerns for which field monitoring is reported to be appropriate. Condition monitoring is taken up for important structures, however the field observations have to be substantiated with analytical results. Finite element (FE) models are found to be suitable to evaluate time-dependent performance of structural elements. In the present study the methodology to model, analyse and evaluate the long-term deflection has been demonstrated with an example of instrumented PSC beam. Time-dependent prestress losses are estimated using ACI-209R-92 creep and shrinkage models. The strains obtained from linear static FE analysis are compared with field measured strains and good agreement is observed.
