Interactive game based learning using computer technology is gaining popularity in the area of health education. The purpose of this study was to develop a game based learning to improve medication safety in older adults. The game based learning was designed to enhance safe medication of older adults. Education consisted of medication safety related contents including medication name, usage, side effects, interactions, and storage requirements. Older adults were recruited to evaluate the interactive interface in a formative manner and difficulty level of game, size of image and speed was adjusted based on their feedback. Some participants were not able to completed tasks on time. Given the rationale for delay or failure of game, the participants mostly reported that fast speed of image change and difficulty of words used. The game based learning is an effective teaching method that empowers older adults to facilitate individual learning using computer technology. The study results suggest that it is critical to reflect overall understanding and functional impairment of elderly when developing educational game. The game based learning using interactive multimedia has the potential to provide both timely and personalized interventions for older adults.
