Description

The Eighth International Conference on Computational Stochastic Mechanics (CSM8) was held on the island of Paros, Greece on June 10-13, 2018. This conference was the sequel to the Seventh International Conference on Computational Stochastic Mechanics (CSM7) which was held on the island of Santorini, Greece on June 15-18, 2014. The aim of this series of conferences is to provide a forum for exchanging ideas on the status of computational methods as they apply to stochastic mechanics and related engineering and applied science fields, and for identifying needs for further research.

This volume comprises the papers presented in the conference, as well as a few papers that were initially accepted for presentation but whose authors were unable, under extenuating circumstances, to attend the conference. The papers are listed in alphabetical order based on the last name of the first author. Themes addressed include: Stochastic Dynamics/Random Processes, Reliability Assessment, Control Optimization, Special Mathematical Techniques, Random Processes Simulation/Uncertainty Representation, Random Structural Analysis, Engineering Application for Materials/Soils/Structural Members, Monte Carlo Simulation/Uncertainty Quantification, Applied Analysis for Structures/Infrastructure Systems, and Ocean and Other Applications.

The Conference also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the birthdays of Professor Mario DiPaola, of the University of Palermo, Italy; and of Professor A. Naess, of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Their work has contributed in fundamental and multi-faceted ways to the development of the field of Computational Stochastic Mechanics.
