ABSTRACT

Due to scarcity of flat ground, buildings are constructed in the hill area with irregular structural configuration having foundation at different level. In this
study the seismic weight of regular building on flat ground is equated to that of the hill building. An analytical study was performed to investigate the behaviour of building on hill slope. The dynamic response of hill building is compared with that of the respective regular building on flat ground in term
of fundamental period of vibration, mode shape, cumulative modal mass participation ratio, deflected shape and base shear action induced in columns
and beam of the respective building. It is observed that hill buildings have significantly different dynamic characteristics than buildings on flat ground.
