<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>We investigate the influence of machining process on eddy current testing
(ECT) signals of fatigue cracks in low-carbon austenitic stainless steels. Several fatigue cracks were created using the four-point bending method. Grinding
seals fatigue cracks on the crack mouth after their fabrication and engender
some conductivity. The fatigue crack behavior was confirmed by comparison
with electric discharge machining and numerical simulation of ECT signals.
The effect of &#945;-martensite transformation of austenite during crack propagation on ECT signals is also considered.</p>
