ABSTRACT

In this paper, an array DCPD experimental system is developed through
introducing a probe array and a multiplexer unit to the conventional DCPD
system. Inspections with the new array system and the conventional system
are conducted and compared. It is found that the noise due to the multiplexer
is negligible small, and the new array system is very efficient for NDT of the
cavity defect in Metallic Foam (MF). In addition, the DCPD signals of two
aluminum foam specimens are tested by using the new array system, and the
measured signals are used to reconstruct the cavity defect inside the specimen
after a signal processing. The good reconstruction results reveal further the
validity and efficiency of the new DCPD system for quantitative NDT of the
MF material.
