J. Y. Richard Liew

Dr. Liew is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Civil Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained his PhD from Purdue University, USA, in 1992 and joined NUS as academic staff from 1992. He is world-renowned as an expert of advanced analysis and the application of theory of stability and plasticity in structural and offshore engineering, with emphasis on robustness assessment, including fire, blast and impact consideration. He is active in several engineering societies particularly in the Singapore Structural Steel Society where he served as President from 2000 to 2002. He served as member of the editorial board of four international journals. He published more than 250 technical articles on topics related to steel and composite structures. He has received numerous teaching awards and research prizes. He has been serving as consultant and technical adviser to government and industry, both in the Singapore and abroad, including a number of major studies and structural steel projects. He is a professional and chartered engineer in Singapore and U.K.
