Abstract

Recently, the demand for micro parts, i.e., parts with submillimeter features, is growing for product miniaturization and densification in applications such as electronic and medical devices. In this study, a model combining a friction model and a two-layer model is constructed for an extrusion simulation of a micro part. In the applied friction model, friction stress follows both the coulomb friction law in low pressure conditions and the shear friction law in high pressure conditions. Further, in the two-layer model, different elasto-plastic properties in the surface grain region and inner grain region is applied. The combined model was investigated by the comparison between the finite element (FE) analysis and experimental results. Results show that the combined model is capable of giving precise simulation results. Additionally, experimental results prove that the model is valid with a workpiece material having three or more grains in its transverse section.
