Abstract

Toward the green manufacturing, the minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) was high-lighted in the semi-dry stamping. Besides for the hard coating technologies, the micro-texturing was effective to preserve the lubricating oil film onto the contact interface from the micro-dimples. Two micro-texturing methods were proposed: the natural micro-texturing via the low temperature plasma nitriding, and, the artificial micro-texturing via the picosecond laser machining. Low friction and wear conditions were preserved for the stainless steel substrates in the ball-on-disc testing. The laser micro-texturing was further utilized to make micro-dimple formation on the curved die inlet to reduce the wear during the ironing step in the semi-dry progressive stamping.
