CEO and Lead Game Designer, Kummara Studio, Indonesia

Abstract
From the player’s perspective meaningful play occurs when the relationships between actions and outcomes in game are both discernable and integrated into the larger context of the game. From the game designer’s perspective it is interesting to see how we can design such meaningful play. In the first part of my talk I will provide some games analysis based on three different aspects: replayablity, game balance, and decision making process. I will argue that only by providing optimal level in those three aspects a game can be categorized as a good game, a game that motivate meaningful play. The second part of the talk will discuss how we should combine four key elements of game design: objective, gameplay, narrative, and technology, to make sure that every game that we develop has an ability to motivate a meaningful play. Later I will also highlight the extended approach of such meaningful play design to create an effective training/learning environment, provide an optimal level of engagement, and deliver positive impact to the society.
